Hi All,

I am going to be visiting New York for a few days in about 6 weeks. This is more of a visit to say I have been there, and seen that for some of the attractions then anything.

But I am wondering just how much time do you really need in New York. The main things I want to see are the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Times Square and possibly Ground Zero.

My thoughts were that this might be possible in 3 days, although would be happy if I could do it in 2 days (price of accomadation and all. Which leads to the next question what is the best area to stay in. If it means it will save me time in getting around I am happy to pay a bit more for the hotel.

Thanks for any help that you can offer it is much appreciated.

Joel

We went a few years ago for 5 days and left having done everything we wanted and more.
I suppose it depends what you want to do/see. There is absolutely tons of sights but I suppose you can do most in 3 days. 2 days is a little short I think.

I stayed in the Gershwin hotel, just along from the Empire state building and it was relatively cheap (for New york) and a great location.

One piece of advice is, look into buying a new york pass. It lets you in to many attractions for free and will save you quite a bit.
I just checked their website and they have a sale until feb 9th....http://www.newyorkpass.com

enjoy

You can see those things in two days. More time would be needed to see NYC properly however.

You can stay in Times Square. The Doubletree is very nice and this will put you right in the middle of one of the places you want to see.

To get to the rest you will have to walk a lot, use a taxi (getting more expensive all the time) or use the subway -- not a bad as some people try to make out.

I recommend that you walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Then you can walk back or take a ferry back.

The Empire State Building and Top of the Rock (at Rockefeller Center) are both good ways to get a view of the city from on high.

You can take a free ferry from the southern tip of Manhattan to Staten Island which will give you great views of the Statue of Liberty from the water -- then you can take the ferry back.

If you want to take the tour that visits the island that the statue is on, then I would recommend staying a third day and setting that aside for the full day to visit the statue and Ellis Island.

And do not miss ground zero -- there is a memorial there now that I haven't been to yet that looks amazing from the photos I have seen.

If you are going to take the Staten Island Ferry, you could go to ground zero and then continue on to the ferry. You can take the subway to ground zero and it is close enough that you could walk to Battery Park where the ferry is.

Thank-you for the replies. It has been a great help, I end up making my booking for 4 nights, and hope to take a day tour to Washington DC somewhere in there as well.
