Does anyone else here use Yelp? It used to only be available for locations in the US, but they've recently expanded to France and the UK. I just returned from a trip to London and Edinburgh and I found the reviews to be very helpful. I also did a fair amount of reviews my self while I was abroad. If not Yelp do you use another user generated review site? _________________ Fine art photographer in Maine

| No. I don't think I've ever heard of it. Most people in the UK use tripadvisor. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ Especially for hotels anyway. I have noticed recently that they alos do restaurants. |

I used a site called trusted places for quite a while. Most of the reviews were genuine and helpful. It was then bought out by Yell (the british yellow pages). The reviews are still helpful but I dont use them as much nowadays.
Yelp is a fairly credible site but I find tripadvisor a bit of a joke. |

| Tripadvisor was a great innovator in online reviews but its not carried it through, its more interested in revenue now than its sole original purpose. Shame, although it means theres certainly room for a better one! |

| I'm going to step up and defend TripAdvisor-- it's always seemed spot on for me! As an avid researcher on all topics, I'll be sure to check out Yelp for my next trip. |

Yes, I've started using Yelp in Edinburgh and it's much more social than other sites/groups. The Yelp team here in Edinburgh hold regular events for Yelp users to experience new bars, restaurants etc. It's a bit like Meet Up groups, but better.
I trust Yelp reviews more too, as reviewers profiles are often more detailed. |

Several years ago I was confidently informed by a large digital agency that Yelp was to be the next big thing and that there were plans for Yelp to spend millions on TV campaigns to crack the British market, making them as big as they are in the States - I'm yet to see any real evidence of this happening.
For me TripAdvisor is still king of the reviews, even though I'm not 100% comfortable with it's policies (like letting people write a review about a hotel without any proof that they have actually stayed). Having said that I am a firm believer that the cream always rises to the top. _________________ Yorkshire Hotels | Holiday Cottages in Whitby | Travel Submit Guest Post |
