There are lots of different ways of looking at this question.
For example, you could ask those people who actually have travelled...
| Quote: | | ...the global average spend for the last trip taken by respondents in the past two years was US$1,481, rising to an expected global average of US$1,895 when travelling in the forthcoming two years. Results from the survey also reveal that the highest spenders were respondents from Australia who spent an average of US$3,636 in their last trip. Respondents from Saudi Arabia were the next highest spenders who spent an average of US$3,129 on their last trip. Projected spending in the next two years also demonstrates that respondents from Australia again look to be the highest spenders, with a projected average travel budget of US$3,582. |

...or you could take a calculation based on per person within the country (and so of those people might not travel at all)...
The $80.8 billion figure for Germany comes from the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer produced in 2010, based on 2009 figures. Note that it looks at international tourism. Countries such as the US (and the UK) have a strong domestic tourism industry which wouldn't have been considered when determining these figures.
The top 10 were:
Germany ($80.8 billion)
Unites States ($73.1 billion)
United Kingdom ($48.5 billion)
China ($43.7 billion)
France ($38.9 billion)
Italy
Japan
Canada
Russia
Netherlands
I don't know what domestic tourism in Germany brings but it's worth over £70bn in the UK (see here). _________________ UK Hotels - UK Selfcatering - UK B&Bs - UK Attractions
