Try La Plagne. It's a great resort, and they have nurseries that provide childcare in most of the villages. _________________ France Travel |

If you're complete beginners I strongly recommend you go to an indoor ski slope a few times if there is one near you before you go.
Total beginners usually take 1-2 days before they leave the nursery slope, and considering a ski holiday is very expensive, it's a bit of a waste to spend up to 2 of your 5 days on the nursery slope, which is rarely much longer than an indoor slope!
Next, you want a resort with lots of green runs, which are the easiest.
Some good resorts for this include:
Chatel
Avoriaz
Les Arcs
Finally, if you don't speak French, consider using a British Ski School (BASI). All British instructors in France are qualified to the same level as their French counterparts.
English speaking ski schools for the above resorts are:
Avoriaz Alpine Ski School
BASS in Chatel
ESI Pro Skiing in Chatel
New Gen in Vallandry will do lessons in La Plagne and Les Arcs.
Let me know if you have any other queries, I'm a ski instructor myself so can probably answer most of them. Enjoy your trip. _________________ Robert

La Plagne, France
Situated in the middle of the vast "Paradiski" area, this superb all-encompassing group of resorts is a skier's paradise and an ideal choice for families of all abilities. With its fabulous selection of spacious family friendly properties and excellent reputation for its encouraging ski schools, La Plagne is a great place to start your family off on their first ski footings.
La Rosiere, France
The peaceful resort of La Rosiere, nestled high in the Tarentaise, is a first class choice for families with its superb range of convenient slopeside accommodation and picturesque skiing, ideally suited to beginners and intermediates. Despite being very high, the resort enjoys a warm, sunny position, which makes for a far more enjoyable first ski experience. The exciting weekly torch lit descent is a must-see for all the family!
Alpe D'Huez, France
For an all round ski holiday including superb skiing plus fabulous extra sports facilities all on the one lift pass, Alpe d'Huez is the answer. With its swimming, ice skating, and night skiing all on offer, this resort is guaranteed to keep even the most energetic of families happy long into the evening.
Flaine, France
The excellent snow conditions, normally found in Flaine, lend themselves to a very soft landing when learning to ski in this winter wonderland. The traffic free centre situated up at Flaine Forum provides an ideal, safe environment for your whole family with easy access to all the towns shops and fun resort activities. _________________ Morocco Travel Plan - We’ll help you build your own Morocco adventure |

I worked in La Plagne for a season, and while it is geared for people who want ski-in ski-out, and it does have a good selection of childcare, it's not the prettiest of resorts, neither is it the best for beginners. It has a long transfer time and can get very crowded with its popularity from Both British and French. All the buildings are purpose built concrete blocks, and this for me spoils the skiing experience.
I would recommend Austria if you looking for a cheaper ski holiday. I've been skiing for 13years, and especially recently, have found that Austria is definitely cheaper than France.
If you have kids, a short transfer time is a good idea - for France, fly to Geneva and head to the Portes du Soleil region (Les Gets, Morzine, Avoriaz) about 1hour from Geneva. Its sits on the border with Switzerland and offers great skiing for everyone. Les Gets is the prettiest resort, Morzine the most lively and Avoriaz is Ski-in Ski-out and offers alot of self-catered accommodation. Quite a 'British' ski area with most people speaking English. Shopping is good and most restaurants offer great food. A pizza would cost around €12-15, something like Tarteflette would be around €18 and a pint of beer €5-6.
If you want quiet skiing, head to the Swiss side, it's usually alot quiter - however if you have instructors they may keep you in the Avoriaz region which is geared more for complete beginners.
For Austria I can recommend Zell am See or Mayrhofen.
Hope that helps. |

There's more to a beginner's ski holiday than house-trained ski instructors, gentle slopes and sore limbs. Finding yourself in a picture-postcard resort is a real bonus and Les Gets in France's famous Portes du Soleil is as charming a ski village as you're likely to find. A well-positioned resort with great instructors.
Getting there: Equity Ski (0870 499 2992; www.equityski.co.uk) offer a seven-night all-inclusive break at the Chalet Aiguille Blance from £685 per person, including breakfast, afternoon tea and three-course evening meal with wine, lift pass, winter sports insurance, ski equipment hire, ski tuition, return flights from Gatwick and transfers. _________________ Car Rental in France |

I would recommend Valmorel, I go there almost every winter and it's a wonderful place, very pretty, wood houses, and beautiful sceneries! w w w .valmorel.c o m/en/winter-hollidays/winter-holidays.html
Although i didn't start skiing there, my friends and I always see groups of beginners around the resort. It doesn't get very crowded and the prices are very attractive.
If it's still too expensive I would really recommend you look at resorts in the Pyreneans. The prices are cheaper than in the Alps!
Enjoy! |

There are other places than the Alps of course.
La Pierre St Martin in the Pyrénées is very small, family orientated and cheap. And also beautiful in the snow |

I'm going to nominate Val d'Isere!
http://travelnewsgroup.com/2011/11/07/european-skiing-for-all/
This is a helpful piece that picks a great ski resort in the Alps for whatever you are looking for, be it the best food, best scenery, best shopping etc.. There are loads of fun, easy slopes for the kids at Val d'Isere so that's a good place to start! |

Val Thorens? Highest ski resort in France (and maybe in Europe), so there's always snow!
Not much scenery to see up there, but definitely a lot of snow. |
