Do you have a go to lens for travel photography? Or do you bring an assortment of lenses in your camera bag? What are the specs and why is it your favorite?
I like to shoot with a zoom and I am currently saving up for http://www.adorama.com/NK2470AFSU.html . |

If i want to travel light and still want to use my slr then i would go for my 17-40 f4 L USM
a great quality lens that will work in most situations (except loads of zoom) _________________ GHPtravel,

When I was "into photography" I used to use a Minolta X370 with a 28 to 70 zoom.
This replaced an older minolta camera and fixed 28 (or it might have been 35 I'm not sure), 55mm and a 70 - 210 zoom that had gone mouldy inside. I can't remember the model of the body but I wish I'd kept it coz it had the advantage of a mecanical shutter so you could use it even if the battery ran out. It was also more robust being all metal, but it used to bug me that it didn't have a hot shoe for the flash.
I found the 28-70 pretty versatile and seeing how I used to shoot mainly slides or sometimes black and white the zoom was enough for my requirements. I certainly prefered not having 3 lenses and had always found that I used the 2 fixed lenses more than the tele anyway.
Nowadays I prefer not to worry so much about photos and just carry a typical digital point and shoot. Initialy it was a concious decision to free myself up from the "looking for the shot" attitude and concentrate on just apreciating where I was. To be honest over the years I've found that of the photos that I've taken the ones that I enjoy looking at most are the typical group shots sitting round with the friends you meet along the way and you can take that type of photo with anything. |

When I had a DSLR years ago, I had the Tamron 28-300 on it almost all the time.
Now I see they have a Tamron 18-270 lens. I would get that if I bought another DSLR.
But for now, I just use a compact Canon along with a slightly larger superzoom Canon with stereo sound video.
Can't bring myself to justify the cost and weight of a DSLR for the type of travel pictures I shoot.
Although, that new Canon T3i with the swivel screen and HD video looks mighty tempting.
Here's the Tamron I'd get for a new DSLR.
I know it's a compromise, but it has such an amazing range. _________________ Paul's Travel Pictures

I use a bridge camera, with a 25-600 zoom. The lens is quite good (even if a minus is the grain in dark areas, because the digital sensor is small); and the comfort of having such a large range in a single zoom is uncomparable, for my common use in travel/street photography. _________________ Hotels in Florence | Apartments in Florence | Vacations in Florence |

I got the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 and I am fairly happy with it. It vignettes slightly on the full frame sensor and is not as sharp as its Nikon counterpart, but for the price I can't complain. _________________ Fine art photographer in Maine

| I've mainly used a Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 over the last couple of years. It's excellent optically, it's got a fixed very wide aperture and it's cheap enough not to worry too much about on a trip. |

| Hi Wes Davidson, really I don’t know about Tampon 28-75 f2.8. Thanks for sharing your information. First I want travel backpacks, because all items are loaded with backpacks. |

That's an unfortunate typo. Made me check your IP address, rossy...
And, lo and behold, you're not in the UK (as you claim) at all. You're in India. I suggest you quickly check Aaron's zero tolerance sticky post about lying about your location, if you don't want to end up on his ban list. _________________ UK Hotels - UK Selfcatering - UK B&Bs - UK Attractions

I dont think hes a spammer because I actually use a tampon on my DSLR. It is great for rainy days. It also comes with an easy to use applicator. Too bad I only get to use them for a few days each month...
Yeah, an unfortunate typo indeed...
So, anyway, it looks like tamRon is pretty popular. I also use the f2.8 18-50. No complaints until recently when one of the plastic bits at the end got loose. It still shoots fine and I prefer the speed. |
