Thinking about getting one of those Asus EEE pc's to use on my travels for email and other stuff when in wifi areas (mainly airports).
Would this be better or could I use an iTouch with its wifi capabilities and double this up as my MP3 player on travels? |

Depends on whether you want to edit pictures while away. If you do you need the eee (or HPs Mini-note which is nicer). If you just want to access email you could use the Itouch (cringe) but you won't be writing long emails because of the key input system. I got a nokia n800 with foldup bluetooth keyboard for blog posts and emails. It does wifi, full web and with the keyboard I can type fairly fast. The screens only 4.1 inches but still it's ok for that stuff and does videos for the plane, podcasts, mp3s and I have it syncing to my google calender etc.... Problem is I still need something to edit my pictures with so the laptop still comes with. After spending time with both the eeepc and the HP mini-note though I'd go for the HP, it's not Barbie quality.

As cool as the Touch is as a wifi web browser, it is a pain for email writing, and you don't have Skype.
A real keyboard is much nicer. |

I agree with emjoi.
I couldn't live without a real laptop on a trip. I usually bring both my PDA and a laptop.
I just remembered that you can use Skype on a PDA. I used it once on my PDA in Cancun and it worked but not as well as using the regular version on a laptop.
If you get a PDA you could also buy one of those small fold up keyboards and use it to type out longer emails.
I'd recommend checking out any mini laptop in a store before buying. The Eee PC has a tiny keyboard that is usable but some people might not be able to get used to it. _________________ Paul's Travel Pictures

depends....
if u just want to view or read emails touch is fine...
but again writing mails and replies a headache ...
Go in for laptop as it has added advantage of various features and keyboard apart from just reading and replying to mails...... _________________ Ski in Valle Nevado,Portillo or Farellones… I'm your guy

I have an Asus EEE pc and it is nice for trips when you want to get some work done.
But most times when it is just emailing and things like that I just use my iPhone _________________ GHPtravel,

At least with a netbook you have a keyboard, but I can see the advantage to having a a touch with the mp3 facility! _________________ Looking For Car Hire?

I would recommend what ever you decide to take on holiday with you that you check out companies that offer solar chargers and multi ended plugs so that where ever you are in the world you can always keep in touch.
These days being able to charge on the move is the way to go. |

Could you do everything you wanted from the new iPhone 3G S?
There is now a Skype app.
This is the first time I strayed away from Nokia and my iPhone is the greatest thing I have ever bought! Life changing bit of kit!! _________________ Travel Insurance - Insureplc.com |

Why even take a laptop with you ~ Your travelling so forget about technology and what is going on in the world ... Just enjoy yourself ~ Besides most hostels offer internet use for tiny amounts of money!!
Although saying that, internet is very usueful to keep up todate with the latest football scores |

Bring a netbook...those 10" netbooks only weighs about a kilo which is so easy to carry around. It's a pain to read and browse the web in small devices like Nokias or PDA phones.
I got an iPhone and I still prefer to bring my 12"MSI netbook with me almost every time. I can do everything with it. I usually ran out of memory card so I need to transfer my pictures from my Canon DSLR so I can take more pictures. Edit and upload pics, update my blog, get news, etc.
I also have a VoIP service with Onesuite and I usually make VoIP calls when I travel which is much cheaper than using your hotel phone. No mobile roaming for me.
Watching movies is nice too when I'm bored like on a long bus ride or something. For about a kilo, your netbook is the most useful device you can carry around. |

It would also be good if your going to carry you laptop with you while you travel.Although it's additional baggage for you to carry. Supported with your reason you really needed a it..
We all knew people carry laptop on their trip is for business, but now that everyone else has a laptop, they bring it for uploading and streaming their experience during happy time. _________________ Diving Boracay
