I have never been to either place, but if I had to choose I would go to Istambul, (formerly Byzantium and later Constantinople, and it has had other names as well.)
The history of this city is amazing -- they have found artifacts dating back over 5000 years.
The main thing I would want to see is the Hagia Sophia but there's so much more: Maiden's Tower; Column of Constantine; the Mazulkemer Aqueduct and the Valens Aqueduct; the Hippodrome of Constantinople; well, too much to list here. _________________ Lee's Travel Guide

Dubai is the product of 20 years intense development and has been utterly transformed into a modern, cosmopolitan, advanced metropolis. Before that, there was nothing...
However Istanbul has more than 2000 years of histrory. I wouldnt even put the 2 cities into same basket..
Final decision is yours... But i would vote for Istanbul _________________ [*]Free Hostel Booking @ Europe Hostels - Turkey Hostels

Having been to both, I'd say you should probably go to Dubai purely for the chance to see it now before it changes again completely in another 5 years wheras Istanbul will probably still be the same _________________ Duncan Bloor

Dubai is a nice experience, but I recommend Istanbul, since the city is really great.

Go to Dubai, they have an indoor ski resort there, with snow!!
Now that's awesome. _________________ Afghan Travel Guide |

I would like to suggest you to visit, because Dubai has turned into a major tourist destination and continues to attract tourists. There are lots of places for fun especially its stunning beaches, historical and modern buildings, museums, parks, art galleries, shopping malls and sporting attraction. _________________ All happiness depends on a leisurely Romantic bed and Breakfasts |

I think that if it is your only ever chance to visit one or the other, and having been to both, then for the experiance I would choose Istanbul over Dubai. More to do and a bit different, Dubai is the same as any large city, nice and safe but lacks soul. _________________ Discover the Home of Cheap Car Rental at over 17000 locations in 135 Countries. |
