Who'd have thought a volcano in the middle of the Atlantic could have quite such an impact on travel...
I've had to cancel a trip to Switzerland, and a client has cancelled their visit to the UK this week. And among my colleagues, two are stuck in the US, one in Spain, and one has just driven back from Italy, while almost all of us in the sales team have had to cancel meetings. And the company I work for provides clinical trial services which require us to send investigational drugs to sites around the world for very specific dates (or the trial becomes invalid) and we're starting to struggle to deliver (especially as contingency routes are filling up).
Aside from the direct impact on the business of the airlines themselves, I wonder what the impact on the rest of the economy is likely to be.
Anyway, hope you've all been relatively unaffected in your parts of the world. _________________ Track your Euros here

I've had to cancel a trip to visit a clinical trial material shipping site. We should be able to do a lot of the process and software review locally, but I do worry about getting a site visit in before my visa expires now.
I must say that Iceland blowing up like this has caused at least two companies to re-evaluate and streamline a couple of processes.
Surely they will be able to file amendments to the protocols? Unless the sponsors were pushing the window for follow-up dosing (in which case, they messed up), there should have been enough leeway built into the intake/examine/dosing schedule to allow for a catastrophe or two. |

Hi everyone, sorry to hear of the problems the volcanic eruption has caused. I actually work with London Luton Airport and we are advising everyone with trips planned to keep in contact with their airlines and the respective websites for further information. At the moment the flight restrictions are still in place but of course the situation is in constant review so hopefully we will have better news later today. Lets all hope for a change in wind direction!

Said on the news the other day that airmail was going across ground and then flying. Taking an extra 48hours. It must be affecting other industries even if it is only slightly. _________________ Stansted Airport Parking

I have a friend that was in the UK, due to return to his Connecticut home on Sunday. Tuesday (today) he and his wife were going to surprise their two boys with a trip to Disney World for spring break.
Clearly, he didn't get home on time. Lucky, his employer said they'd cover the cost for him to make sure he was part of the family vacation. So, he managed to get on the Eurostar to Paris. From there, he rented a car and drove 14 hours to Madrid where he was to catch a flight to Guyaquil, Ecuador. From there he was to fly to Miami whereupon he would rent a car and meet his wife and boys in Orlando sometime Wednesday.
Not quite the Heathrow-Boston nonstop he was supposed to be on, but the kids have their spring break, and he gets to attend as well. _________________ My flight map. A million miles and counting....Where I’ve been around the globe. |

He posted on Facebook yesterday that from the time he left the hotel in Paris to arriving at the hotel in Orlando was 40 hours. I think once he knew he was going to get where he wanted to go, that he relaxed and started to enjoy himself. _________________ My flight map.
