|
|
We`re planning a trip to Hawaii next October.
I just found out that the Iron Man is taking place exactly when we`re there. On one hand that`s great, but I`m now wondering if we won`t run into accomodation troubles on Big Island round that period.
So does anybody know how busy it gets there for that event ? Do many tourists fly in ? |

Book early. I don't know if there are tourists who go there to watch, but I'm sure with competitors, suppliers, and advertisers there will be crowds.
On the day of the big races, you'll likely find some road closures. Maybe a good time to pop over to the other side of the island for an overnight getaway within a getaway? _________________ My flight map. A million miles and counting....Where I’ve been around the globe. |

Yeah, that`s what we are thinking too - either make sure we`re on another island (Molokai or so) those days, or going to another part of Big Island.
On the other hand - it`s also a good moment to give our support to the Belgian participants...
Not sure yet how to handle, that`s why I was asking |

RT is right on target; crowds, road closures (not that Kona has a lot of roads) and helicopters. Personally I'd go off-island
Or, you could volunteer to pass out water to the athletes as they go running by . _________________ A sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life--W.A. Ward |

Hadn't thought of off island, but Kauai is my favorite Island. _________________ My flight map. A million miles and counting....Where I’ve been around the globe. |

Thanks for the advise !
SO far we only have the plane-tickets so all options are open but maybe it's a better idea indeed to avoid Big Island this days.
Don't hesitate if you have more tips about Hawaii (accomodation that you liked or so).
At this stage we're thinking of visiting Big Island, Oahu and Molokai (the last one because of father Damian, he's from near where we live to we won't miss the opportunity to see where he lived and died).
Kauai is not on our list yet but I'm sure you'll have arguments to talk us into visiting it too.... |
