No hotel availability in Kyoto at Easter!

Help! We've booked flights to Japan for Easter, and booked a hotel in Tokyo for Fri 2nd and Mon 5th no problems (even using reward points, so availability obv wasn't a problem). Now trying to book a hotel in Kyoto and there seems to be absolutely NOTHING available!! Staying elsewhere is not an option as we are very short on time.

I've travelled all over the world, inc. at peak times and never ever had a problem finding somewhere to stay for 2 nights before, even at peak times at the last minute. OK maybe not first choice of hotel if it's small, but it never even crossed my mind that we'd have a problem booking 6 weeks before.

Does anyone have any ideas? This is for my 30th b/d and will be so upset if it's ruined.

I just gave it a shot and found Kyoto Travelers Inn Hotel that still seems to have some vacancies... But better hurry as there's indeed not much left...

Yikes! That bites. Kyoto gets very, very busy in the spring. I bet you can find something, but you'll have to get someone who knows japanese to help you. I have found that only select hotels advertise to foreigners. A search in Japanese on google.co.jp would probably be fruitful. Worse comes to worst, you could stay in private room in a hostel, such as those found on hostelz.com.
