Sometimes the wildlife documentaries create false expectations about animals sightings. A 1 hour doc can take months of filming and visitors expect to see as much in a single game drive.

You need to have realistic expectations when on safari. You are very unlikely to see the something like on tv as they take months filming those shows.

Africa is not just safari though, there are the people, the history and the huge variety throughout the continent. Africa is not just one destination.

I've always wanted to visit Cape Town and Durban. I guess South Africa is a beautiful country.

yeah when you look at tv programs about Africa, it will create excitement and great expectations of the place..but we just need to look deeper into that and be realistic i guess..other great destinations are Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

^^They say Mpumalanga is the most interesting place in Africa. But I also heard it's already dead, dull and boring, how true is this?

Indeed, soometimes people get caught up in the safaris and forget to enjoy the culture, traditions and the people, not to mention the landscape.

Before I went to Africa I tried to imagine what it would be like. It is so different from my home country that I was domed to fail to have a realistic idea. I went to Africa very open minded and loved every minute I spent on the continent.

As for safaris and nature I was really surprised that you can get so up-close to animals. I expected to see wildlife from a long distance, but actually loads of animals where just an arm reach away. Also the people really amazed me. The thing I was most amazed about that so many different tribes and religions are living next to eachother and respecting eachother without any problem (talking about Tanzania here). That is something we can learn a lot from here in the Netherlands, where people are judging other cultures and religions all the time.

(love your signature Africanbee! )

Before my friend had suggested it I would never have considered going to Africa (Tanzania to be exact) on holiday. Driving through dusty nature reserves was not my idea of fun. However, I decided to give it a go and It was by far the best holiday I have ever been on. I can't even explain how much I loved it! Everything - from the weather, landscape, animals and people - were so different from what I had imagined.

Now I try not to imagine what places will be like - just let the experience take over and see what happens Very Happy

I guess, I'll have to answer that one sometime in Mid April when I get back.

I am flying into Cape Town on March 13.10,, spending 5 days before going on a road trip to Dar Es Salaam. Will be travelling through South Africa before entering Bostwania,
to Victoria Fall for a few day, continuing our journey through Zambia to
Serengeti in Tanzania, finishing the trip in Zanzibar .Will be travelling about 6000 klm.
I have read some travel books, read some post and seen some pictures.
But as far as what to imagine, I imagine this will be one of my most memoriable trip.
I just hope that the people I will be travelling with ( 3 South Africans that I have not personally met yet) will be compatable.

I'll let you know when I get back,

Josee

Good point, there is allot to see in Africa - so many different areas which have different cultures and scenery.
