Zanzibar Airport runways to close for maintenance
AS a result of ongoing Zanzibar runway maintenance, all Tuesday flights in March and April 2010 have been cancelled. Zanzibar Airport will be closed from 07h00 to 19h00 on these days. “We are aware of the closure of the airport on Tuesdays to finalise the whole runway rehabilitation project that has been running for some time now. We have changed our schedule for the time period and will operate our flights on a Wednesday for those six weeks,” said Graham Paterson, 1time Director Airports and Africa. Precision Air’s Tuesday flights on March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 and April 6 and 13 arriving to or departing from Zanzibar Airport have been cancelled

and the ac is struggling to cope at the moment as there is now no power on Zanzibar other than that made by small generators. Stone Town is a noisy hot place atm.

also be aware that some hotels / restaurants are closed until the power comes back when they repair the cable in about a month ...fingers crossed. we are putting our guests out of town in hotels with at least 12hrs electricity...

Thanks for the updates guys, does anyone know when the submarine line will be fixed?

We have a fair few customers travelling to Zanzibar in the comming months and though we have had plenty of customers coming back and saying it didn't inconvience them to much, I just don't want Zanzibar to get a bad reputation.

It's such a beautiful place....they have to get it fixed soon!

We had some problems with clients flights being cancelled last year due to the runway maintenance. Usually means an extra night in Kenya if on safari (which most of ours were) but is is something to bear in mind when visiting Zanzibar.
