Hi,
We're hoping to spend about a week in Zanzibar at the end of a safari at Easter time. We'll be arriving in Zanzibar the Tuesday after Easter. Do you think we would need to book accommodation in advance or would it be OK to go on spec. We are three sisters, so looking for a triple room for around €25/$35 pps a night. Does that sound reasonable?? Ideally we'd love a beach hut/ bungalow.

If you are not fussy about where you stay then you could turn up on spec as there will always be somewhere, it just depends if that somewhere is where you want to stay!

If you have found a place and it is in the budget and fits your description, I would book it. Why take the risk?

But if I book somewhere in advance and it doesn't turn out to be great, then I could be more screwed. There's not a lot of places with reviews, and they seem quite expensive.

What are the good beaches? Am thinking maybe 2 nights in Stone Town and then maybe 4 at one of the beaches...does that sound good?

Why at the moment? We'll be there the first week in April for a week.

Do they have electricity back yet?

What beaches would you recommend?

Have a look at Kendwa Rocks: http://www.kendwarocks.com/

This is a fun place to stay if you enjoy a bit of party. It has one of the bes beaches of Zanzibar. Because it is located on the west side, you don't get low tide and high tide. The beach is very deep and long. They have different types of rooms with different prices. You can also plan some activities here like snorkeling, fishing and sunset cruises.
They don't have a swimmingpool though. If you prefer to have a swimming pool you should have a look at Kipepeo: http://www.kipepeo.it, it is an Italian owned and managed lodge at Jambiani. Also Casa del Mar at Jambiani is a nice place to stay and has a swimming pool: http://www.casa-delmar-zanzibar.com/.

There is still no power on Zanzibar at the moment, but it could be back at Easter (you will never know for sure). If you want to book, check with them if they use generators and how many hours a day they run the generators.

Wishing a great holiday!

We booked Langi Langi in Nungwi, it was recommended by a friend of a friend. Nungwi sounds great as the tides don't affect it. However, I am still a bit worried about the rainy season, but I'm sure it'll still be great!! Cool
