I think devon can be very good for families and in particular a place such as Paignton. With the zoom beach, shops and nearby villages and also nearby Torquay, this is a great location in my view for families.

For me you can't be Devon or Cornwall for fantastic holiday fun for families!

I spent many a year as a child going on holiday with my parents and sister and we always had great fun!

The beaches down there are fantastic, there are lots of nice small villages you can pick at random to visit in the evening to enjoy a drink down a typical English pub. Plenty of fishing quays you can visit for a look around!

Not forgetting all the castles you can visit!

We always went to a Haven site - we had our own tent that we used to stay in but they also have chalets and large static caravans that you can rent as well.

Got to say North Wales (even though I am biased). Even before we moved here 3 years ago we had been coming on holiday for the past 25 years. We are based in Conwy a medieval town on the coast and from here we can visit the Snowdonia National Park (called the Lake District without the traffic) if we want to hike, the Island of Anglesey (designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) for beaches, surfing, the timeless Llyn Peninsula where in parts time has stood still, again great beaches and hop over to Ireland with the fast ferry in 90 minutes from Holyhead. There are beautiful beaches (Newborough and Abersoch are favorites) and stunning mountain scenery. We lived in Altrincham so in an hour we had reached Conwy and now the journey is all motorway and A roads. Perfect.

I've visited Center Parcs in Whinfell Forest, Cumbria several times. Experience has been mixed. The facilities are good, but did feel that it was a bit on the pricey side. It worked well for us when we took lots of our own food and avoided the restaurants on-site. We've been there in family groups and it's a great place to 'hang out' with the family, with activities available for old and young. But when groups of 12+ of us went out for meals together it was sometimes hours before we were served, despite booking in advance. But we did go back several times so some things were great.

But as a family, we love to go to Fife - great beaches in Elie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews, plenty of family-friendly activities, like Craigtoun Park, Fisheries Museum, Deer Centre at Cupar, Fruit Picking and adventure playground at Cairnie. Places to stop off on drives for refreshments, such as the St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company, Anstruther Fish Bar and Honeypot Tearooms in Crail. Festivals in Crail in July, Pittenweem in August, etc.

York is a great place to go with a family. You have so much history there, from the little streets to the Roman ruins, and the Jorvik Viking Centre. I've got great memories going there as a kid. Parents have a great time aswell, and the shopping can be good.

Leeds is less than an hour away and has fantastic shopping, and a little further you can go rambling/hiking on Ilkley Moor or the open swimming pool in Otley.

Hi, where do you live in the UK? Maybe you could travel to Scotland or Northern Ireland on an activities holiday? It depends on the ages of your kids but an activity or adventure holiday would definitely keep them occupied. There's also lots to see and I'm sure they'll be lots of good places for family dining and entertainment. Claire

Scotland is a good idea. I'm really into mountain biking, and Fort William is a fantastic place for that kind of outdoor sport.

The Lake District is also a good shout. Somewhere like Grisedale Forrest has 'Go-Ape' for the kids and adults alike!

The lake district is an excellent suggestion, although it can become very crowded during the summer.
if you are after more freedom then try the yorkshire moors, somewhere like scarbrough is an excellent choice as a base for a holiday. their is the beach and arcades, not to mention the sealife centre. and it is only a short journey to somewhere like pickering that enables you to walk or cycle in the moors

That's tru, it is a very popular place. Windermere especially will be very busy. Somewhere like Keswick is just as nice and usually a little quieter. Yorkshire moors - especially near Dalby Forrest

I would head to Bournemouth, or Devon and Cornwall - where it is generaly warmer than anywhere else in UK.

Bournemouth it's also a good idea. The mild climate provides ample opportunity to enjoy scenic beaches.

Lochearnhead is on Loch Earn and very central within Scotland where Stirling, the Trossachs and Perthshire meet up at the gate to The Highlands.

It is an excellent central base for day trips and touring and is within the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. There is a water sports and activities centre in the village including banana rides, ringos. water skiing and wake boarding, quad bikling, cycle hire and archery. There are 2 pub/hotels and a waterside cafe. It is near 2 golf clubs and half an hour from many others. National Cycle route 7 is an off road track that goes 7 miles Lochearnhead to Killin or 5 miles Lochearnhead to Balquhidder, along the old railway viaduct. There are many walks through Glen Ample at the back of Edinample Castle and through Balquhidder as well as Queen Elizabeth forest Park walks at Strathyre and the Deils Cauldron at Comrie. The village is near Munro's (Ben Vorlich, Stuc a Chroin, Ben Lawers visitor centre) . You can hire fishing boats and tackle at Drummond fish farm 2 miles away. You can fish free from cottages with a garden on Loch Earn plus boat mooring, bird and wildlife spottting. Blair Drummond Safari park and Auchingarrich wildlife park withing 40 and 20 minutes. Tennis and putting at Killin. Easy day trips to Glencoe, Abefeldy, Comrie, Crieff, Loch Lomond and the trossachs. Only 90 minutes from Edinburgh Glasgow and Oban.... Towering mountains and Lochs mean that the terrain is stunning. If you prefer cabins, caravans, hotels, b&b or cottages check out the Loch Earn Tourism Initiative for a list of accommodation ideas or Briar Cottage Lochearnhead for a holiday cottage for 4 with free fishing and mooring. You can even book cabins at the old Lochearnhead railway station via the Hertfordshire scouts.
