I'm planning to go on a two night trip to Montreal in August with some friends. We will be leaving from Toronto to go to Montreal. Does anyone have any suggestions on the cheapest form of transportation? Would that be the Greyhound?

Yeah, I actually ended up booking train tickets instead. It would take 9 hours to bus to Montreal from Toronto with Greyhound, whereas it would only take 5.5 hours on Via Rail (still long, but definitely better than 9 hours). I booked before July 31st, so I got the 60% off special fare, which makes it far more affordable than regular price.

Most rideshares between the cities ask for $30

I hitched Montreal - Toronto.
not really possible to hitch out of Toronto due to the motorways..

IMO, the cheapest way move from Toronto to Montreal is by bus. The advantage of the bus is that you reach directly from the downtown core to the downtown core.
Public transportation is easily accessible from both the Toronto and Montreal bus terminals and due to their prime city centre location. Another benefit is price is low just like starting from $10. So I’d recommend taking this way.
