I am wanting to go to the Domincan republic on my own but worried that the only places there are for couples and not people on their own. Has anyone been to any resorts that cater for people on their own?

I was thinking of booking a 2 week holiday and not catching the return flight and then exploring Central America and Cuba after the package deal.

Cabarete (fly to Puerto Plata POP) is good - there are actually bars and restaurants on the beach instead of the "gated" all inclusive resorts. It's a popular spot for kite surfing.

I went to an All Inclusive resort in Punta Cana a couple of years back and it was amazing. I travelled as part of two couples, but in the evenings everyone seemed very happy to chat to everyone else. And as everyone took more advantage of the All Inclusive nature of the bar, people became even more chatty!!

I would say these closed gate all inclusive resorts may not be the best place to meet other solo travellers, but if you're happy to eat alone and spend most of the day alone, then go for it, although you would meet people if you took advantages of the activities and day excursions!!

Great beaches and natural beauty!!

Dom Rep is a good plac with lots of friendly people. NO isues with travelling alone, most hotels you will find some who is also traveling alone. Hits the bars and clubs and you will make lots if new holidya mates. Just be careful not all people you come across are friendly. as long as you know what yu are doing and have common sense you will have a great time as a single traveller or with a companion.

If you get a chance try the white water rafting... the one we went on was in the middle of the country what the mountains are. It was one of the best places to for rafting, with some very strong and fast rapids.

A very good spot in Dominican Republic is Las Terrenas (Samana province, North East of the island). And make an excursion to the Limon falls (Cascadas del Limon): you can go there by horse.

Did you go for it ?

I have found that the single supplements are pretty huge when booking a holiday and getting flight only plus doing own hotel booking worked out way cheaper. I went from Dom Rep to Cancun by flight (via Panama).. Had to pay some kind of bribe at Santo Domingo airport !!
