Israel is much less dangerous than walking around in NY. You might want to talk to people who've been there about where to stay away from if you're nervous about bombs, even though they're statistically incredibly rare no matter what you do. E.g. don't go to the market in Jerusalem on Thursday afternoon when it's most crowded with Sabbath shoppers. If you stay out of places like this, it's a ludicrously safe country.

If you're there in the winter, go to Elat; otherwise I'd say it's too hot. In the summer I'd make sure to spend time in the north (The Golan) and around the Sea of Galilee. The beaches in Herzelia are really nice. Tel Aviv is super-fun. Jerusalem is... Jerusalem. It's just a really great country to visit.

Hi there...

There are times when Israel become more dangerous and there are times when it's safer than walking down city centers like NY and London.

Just make sure you read the news, feel "what's going on". Even in war times it's not dangerous to travel to Israel. But, offcourse it's better to have your mind free of worries so it's better to go somewhere else.

Those days it's really cool here. Great weather and lots of nice people.

Reading the Daily Mirror and they had a feature on Eliat in Israel . I had an interest in Israel as its such a melting pot but this article has only heightened my interest further with whats available. Camel Rides in the desert, ferry to Jordan, regular connections to Jerusalem... lots more besides. Anyone know anything more about it?

Israel is not more dangerous than any other place in US. Eilat and the dead sea are great for visiting between Novembert to March, for sun and heat lovers the summer will be great too(but very hot). Jerusalem can be visited all over the year, there are a lot of historical places for all the religions. In addition there is Tel-Aviv, the buisiness and nightlife center of Israel. You can find there beaches, many pubs and nightclubs.
The north of the country full of green and streams. in that area located the city if Haifa(with the Baha'i gardens) and the Sea of Galilee and .

.... Some places can really surprise you, you can find the most friendly people in the countries you heard nothing but bad things about. So brake that chain of prejudice, and go see the places from the bottom of your list, you will be amazed by all you've been missing. There is a book that talks allot about these kind of things, it is a travel journal of an Iranian American entrepreneur traveling in Balkans, [deleted] . I warmly recommend it, and also the site [deleted].

Not sure what Israel has to with the Balkans, but you've managed a plug for this book and web site twice in your 3 posts to date. Please refer to the guidelines on advertising.

I agree, Eilat is not the first place you will want to visit, it's similar to what you can find in Mykonos or any Italian Riviera...

The best period for me is Spring, it's warm enough to tan on the beach and wear summer clothes, but you won't risk fainting with 40 desgrees (one year in the Dead Sea the temperature reached 52- and I'm talking about Celcius!)

I would suggest:
Jerusalem
Tel Aviv
Petra, if you have time
Golan Heights
Caesarea
Dead Sea
Haifa

And that's enough to start with Laughing
Usually I sleep at my relatives' house, so I'm not that acquainted with hotels and similar, but I did try hotels in the Dead Sea and on the Golan, so I can advise on that!

I published my reviews on www.holidaycheck.com

If you have other questions or doubts ask me, I know the country pretty well Wink

Hotels in Israel are very expensive, I really recommend to use hostals or pensions, they are much cheaper and have a good quality.

I agree the countries is a melting pot.

Jerusalam is a special city for Muslims, christian and Jews alike.

I have been to jordon and wanted to go to this speacial city from jordon but for security reason they had closd the border for 2 days.

The ony thing that puts me of travelling to Israel is security.... this is no joke, even their embassy has the same concerns, now of they have these concerns there is defo an issue there.

I have many muslim, christian and jewish friends, all are fantastic people, i just can not see why the area has such a high security issue when all the people i now are so fantastic.

I think if you remove the politics from the region you might get some security.

All said and done the place is a great place with some serious history and culture.
