So brand names in the hotel industry used to mean Sheraton, Westin, Intercontinental, Marriott, etc. What makes a hotel brand name now? A designer hotel, designed by a renowned fashion designer.

Missoni, Diesel, Christian Lacroix, Bulgari, Versace have all ventured into the hospitality industry. Technically, I would say it's called interior design. Or maybe cross-marketing between the original hotel and the designer brand? I'm not really sure. Regardless, it's definitely stylish and luxury accommodation. But what makes me really wonder is, what are the occupancy rates like? I personally find it a little excessive to stay at a Bulgari boutique hotel. The flashy jewels may blind me. But hey, what do I know.

For a complete list of designer stamped hotels, http://www.metronews.ca/toronto/live/article/262166--5-favourite-high-fashion-hotels.
Have you stayed in any of these hotels? Would you?

Not really a new trend, are they?

Unfortunately, the above link doesn't work for me, so I can't say if I've stayed in any of them.

Everything today, and perhaps always has been, is controlled by FASHION
The trend of movement towards "boutique" hotels is just that - a trend
The secret to successful breaks, comfortable travel and accommodation is RESEARCH

Always research the hotels carefully. Today more than ever, there is a massive amount of information on sites, blogs and forums - so no excuse to get things wrong!!
I recently stayed at a boutique hotel in Oxford and was very disappointed- perhaps that was due to my expectations though to be fair!
