Friends! Jordan has a rich history and is home to some of the best historical sights in the Middle East. Jordan is located in the Middle East and borders Syria, Saudi Arabia, the Red Sea, Palestine, Israel, and Iraq. In addition it is a welcoming place for Westerners compared to many other countries in the area. These are some must see destinations:

Amman
At the sprawling mountain city of Amman Jordan, the ancient Middle East meets modern day Jordan with an array of fascinating historic sites and contemporary art galleries. Amman is the capital of Jordan and is situated between the desert and the fertile Jordan River Valley. Spread over a number of hills, residents and visitors alike have great panoramic views of the city and beyond at every turn.

Petra
Petra is one of the most spectacular ancient cities in the world and undoubtedly the most famous attraction in Jordan. For many people Jordan begins and ends with the magical ancient Nabataean city of Petra. And it's true, Petra is without doubt one of the Middle East's most spectacular sights, battling it out with Machu Picchu or Angkor Wat for the title of the world's most dramatic 'lost city'.

Jerash
One of the best-preserved provincial Roman towns in the world, lies about 45 km north of ‘Amman, in a fertile valley with a perennial stream. Because of its water, the site has been settled at least since Neolithic times and Bronze and Iron Age pottery has been found on the original tell. Its early Semitic name was Garshu.

Aqaba
Jordan’s only seaport lies half encircled by mountains at the head of the Gulf of Aqaba, an arm of the Red Sea. Its position was always strategic - as a hub of the land and sea routes linking Arabia, the Far East, Africa and Europe, and for its subterranean reserves of sweet water. It remains a busy port, and Jordan’s fastest developing town.

Dead Sea
Jordan’s western border runs below sea level for most of its 360 km length, following the line of the Jordan rift. At its heart is the Dead Sea, the world's lowest point at 402 meters below sea level. It lies at the bottom of a valley on the Jordan/West Bank/Israel border, and is the world's second most saline water body. Due to the high salinity, it is impossible to sink under the water, which makes it the only place on the planet, where weightlessness can be experienced in a natural environment. All you need to do is lie down on top of the water and relax.
Increasing popularity of spa vacations as people lead healthier lifestyles has seen the world-renowned Dead Sea coast become a major Jordan tourism destination. The natural healing power of the Dead Sea Jordan is world renowned for its rejuvenating Dead Sea minerals and spectacular landscape.

I have been there in 2001 and I agree. I would spend more time perhaps in Jarash then in Aman but generally the list is quite complete.

The only port in Jordan, and the only access to the Red Sea with it's beautiful corals and fish. Its four hours drive from Amman, has lots of hotels and diving centers. It was used as a port at the time of the Nabataeans, and ships even from China used to bring goods to its port, Aqaba now is an economical free zone, being a tax free zone makes it unexpensive for shopping.
