|
|
Hi!
I was wondering what beaches (and months) to frequent when spotting for pro and amateur surfers? I'm a newbie when it comes to Australia, but I want to hear it from the Aussies themselves (or anyone who is equally knowledgeable) as to where surfers hang out the most during this x time of the year.
EDIT:
I've also done my research, and am taking second opinions. A budgetted trip requires me to map out an itinerary so I don't waste too much of my benefactor's funds.
Thanks! _________________ Travelling with Campervan Hire Cairns |

Maui is probably a good place to go - But Im not sure if you will be able just to "spot" them - there is a lot of good surfers out there! Probably worth getting in the water and asking a few people! _________________ Looking For Car Hire?

My idea of spotting is just taking a few photos and sitting by the shore, probably wait for a few of them to rest up and introduce myself. lol
What month do you think should I go to Maui? Any specific beach in mind? _________________ Travelling with Campervan Hire Cairns |

Is this a legit thread? If I'm not seriously mistaken Maui is a location not in Australia, but is a part of the USA..?
Anyone looking for info on this: the South West of Western Australia is pretty much covered with great surf spots. Though it's pretty rural in this region, there are tons of good surfers and almost always waves to be seen somewhere on the rugged coast here. Also, Margaret River is to the south of this region and it's got world class waves, not only at Mainbreak but also at other spots too.

Wow, thanks for taking note of that. I'm a bit of a dumbbell sometimes, so I didn't check Maui was Hawaii (?).
Southwest eh? I could pass by through that spot. But I'm heading upwards for Cairns, in Queensland. Any luck with the great swells there? Or is there none? D:
I might have to rethink spending more time down "Down Under" rather than up north. _________________ Travelling with Campervan Hire Cairns |

Good one there mate!
Daah...looks like the aussie shores also suffer from people congestion. But an awesome site nonetheless! Many thanks!

Why don't you experience the high waves at Bells Beach on the south coast?

I didn't see too much surfing when I was up near cairns, not much surf either, that may be due to the season, or just because the barrier reef messes up the swells? I'm not an expert though.
However, I did see lots of great surfing along the Great Ocean Road, like at Bells and others. Got some good shots too. _________________ Robert

You might want to try out the Gold Coast. The waves there are actually really good. Surfers Paradise is also a good recommend, though the waves here not as high as that of other places. Generally, Queensland offers the most surfing spots here. _________________ Australian Visa Assistance - PrincipalVisas.Com |

I can suggest the Mauritius Island. They has a good surfing place.
The waves can fit to what you are looking for. You can also see and try this place. _________________ A list of the best Mauritius Hotels |

Yeah - the Gold Coast has some popular pro surfing competitions such as the Quicksilver Pro and the Roxy Pro. There are lots of great vantage points which is why it is so popular for spectators. _________________ Gold Coast Holidays | Surfers Paradise Holiday Apartments |

Go to Maroubra Beach, they love their surfing there and there are many pro surfers who live in that area plus plenty of amateurs.
Also - the Gold Coast and in particular - Coolangatta, has a very large surfing community. |
