The dark side of Dubai

Hi

I was just in Dubai and as most I was mesmerized by the amazing skyscrapers, the huge malls, the fancy cars, all the gold in the old souk etc. But it seems like there is a dark side to all of this and I found this interesting article about it: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/johann-hari/the-dark-side-of-dubai-1664368.html . It is a very long article but it is very interesting and it looks into the work conditions in Dubai for e.g. construction workers, polluted water in the tourist hotel areas etc.

There has been a fair bit in the news recently about Dubai - introducing the 'contradiction' argument with people giving the infamous champagne banquets and then it being illegal to be drunk on the street etc

Dubai is an amazing place that as with all major cities has its darker underbelly. I think the writter is making a mountain out of a molehill.

Yeah I heard some media professionals from Ireland and the UK have their passports confiscated by their employer when they sign their contract in Dubai. Always a worrying sign.

it is just normal for a place to have its dark side.. i mean no place is perfect in terms of environment, its people and the general setting of the place..

The condition over there is really bad. I have read that article. I can't even imagine to visit Dubai now. Yes i agree that every big cities have there dark side but its directly related to peoples health. Dubai is a main tourist spot and if the condition is like this people should stop thinking to visit over there ever. I request to the moderator that each and every member of this forum should be aware of all this happening in Dubai.
