tourists can now get more views of ULuru.
released oct 5th
A new viewing platform will be unveiled at Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock) on Thursday, allowing visitors to the sacred site in Australia's Northern Territory gain a whole new perspective of the iconic rock.

The A$20m (£10m) platform will have shaded areas, walkways and raised pathways, and will cater for 3,000 visitors, whereas the existing dawn viewing area currently attracts over 1,200 people - far more than the original designers ever anticipated.

The project is supported by an 11km scenic road around the rock which opened in 2008, plus a new coach area and car park.

The new platform will also offer views of Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) on a clear day.

The official decision on a proposed climbing ban of Uluru is still under consultation, but the new viewing platform will offer an alternative for visitors who want more than a base view. `worldtravelguide

Wow. This is interesting- I visited the Olgas and Uluru about six and a half years ago and there was nothing like this available then. It is a wonderful and awe-inspiring thing standing under the rock at Uluru so this is somewhere I'd highly recommend visiting if you're heading to Australia any time soon.

Not too sure what the verdict is with not climbing the rock anymore..we got to climb it when we were there and it was incredible, though a quite long climb.

Hi there johnny_mac, yes I'm in Perth at the moment, but as strange as it may seem I have never actually stopped off at Wave Rock! I'm sorry I can't really tell you a great deal about it Sad Surely there'll be plenty of people on here who have been there though..

The new development is actually a very good one. It will give people a new vantage point for looking at Uluru. However, the best point is still the one where you get up close to the rock.
