hi…I'm going to BA in Jan. Does anyone know of a good local tour guide? I'm still just getting my info together, so I'm open to walking, being driven or public transportation.

Thank you for the info. I looked at that site you recommended, but those tours look a little "canned" to me. I really want to find a guide who can move at my pace and adjust the tour, being flexible enough to let me linger over some unforeseen find or speed up/skip what I find boring. I might be the only one going or I might have some friends with me, too, so someone who is willing to take a group or just a single is important. Thanks

I think I know of someone you would like. When we were in BA recently, a tour guide was recommended to us by a friend, and she was great. Very individualized tour, she offered several suggestions and we selected the things we wanted to see most. There was no canned talk but she had a lot of information about the places we were seeing, and a lot of history that made it even more interesting. We didn't have a car so we went around on public transportation and on foot and she was careful to maximize our time. At the end of the day we were amazed at how much we had seen and how much we had learned. She also had suggestions for things we could do on our own, and we did them. You can contact her at virginiapanetta@yahoo.com.ar. Hope this is what you are looking for. We had a wonderful time there.

I would like to second the recommendation for Buenos Tours. I know Alan Patrick, the tour guide, and he is really good. I think he would be flexible with the tour for you. Also, someone recently recommended a woman named Virginia Panetta on our site, Argentinastravel.com. Her email is virginiapanetta@yahoo.com.ar
Good luck!

I see somewhat like a personalized or a personalized tour. The way I do that is to be friend with the hotel staff or from tourist information centers they can always suggest a local private tour guide at a minimum cost. they would usually recommend freelancers or tourism students doing on job trainings. you wanted to do this in BA, check out this local tour guide who can also assist you with other stuff you need whilst in BA online profile and contact info @ http://www.ourexplorer.com/tour-guide-maria-virginia-panetta-4440.aspx

Hi this is Alan from BuenosTours (I hope no one thinks this is advertising, I just stumbled across this post and felt the need to reply to help make sure people don't get the wrong idea about our tours).

I just wanted to say that our tours are not "canned" - we offer completely private and personal walking (with some public transport) tours (no big groups and no tour buses) - with just you and your guide - only the people you book for are on the tour (whether you are 1 person, or 6 people, or whatever). Due to this, we can go completely at your pace, skip anything you don't like, linger when you want to, and slant the tour towards your interests etc...

Of course most of our tours have itineraries and/or areas where we go (otherwise most people would have no idea what they are booking for). But this does not make them canned, and they can still be amended, so they are flexible.

Also, you will see on our website that we also offer completely "custom" walking tours (in addition to the ones with itineraries) - which go wherever you want to with the guide. You can't get less "canned" than that.

I'm not trying to criticise you, just trying to point out that you got the wrong idea about our tours Smile

I just came back to this site (finally!) because I have been in BA twice now and wanteed to follow up on my original post. On my first visit, I took your advice and took a tour with virginia panetta (BA History Day tour)and absolutely loved it! On my last visit, I tried one of her other tours (Old BA) and found it equally fantastic, plus it was cheap! Thanks for the tip...it totally paid off!

p.s. got her new website address www.privatebatours.com when I was there
