Are money belts not meant to be worn under clothing? They're thin and discrete and seem ideal for money and documents, though must get pretty sweaty right enough. Still if worn properly only Superman would be able to know you've got one on |

I think most thieves will just go for the people who never read travel magazines or forums So if you take measures to not be a really easy target, they'll probably just look for someone else who is an easier target - there's certainly enough relaxed / careless people around.
So I don't think talking about ways you try to keep your money safe is a bad thing - unless you come out and say 'I carry a fortune with me, and keep it all in XYZ, where nobody would ever guess...'
There's always a risk of getting violently mugged, and no matter where you hide funds on your person then you'll lose it - but if you take steps to not look like an attractive target then you may reduce your risk a little. _________________ Great Casual Games - Games Your Laptop Can Run |

I know this sounds cliche but only in the most brutal of robberies will you be asked to remove your shoes and socks...even muggers dnt do that as far as i know. try hiding it there. of course you can only do small amounts then..or you need to get money in really large denominations. Whenever i am near towns or cities with ATM's i try to rely more on cards. _________________ If u have any interesting videos of your travels and want to compete with myself and other forumers., check out this link

Too bad we can't use exploding dye packs on the money like banks do. It would be priceless to see a mugger with a face full of blue paint. _________________ Katrina

I treat travel away from home the same as at home ...I dress to suit the event and location therefore often fit in so hiding money in secret places is a strange notion to me ..
people who get mugged are often tourists in tourist groups who think they have immunity as they booked in there local travel agents therefore paid good money to be there and no one will mug them cos they are just looking so not really there ..well it made sense in my mind ..personally i try to become part of the fabric of where I am |

My wife swears by the bra system, although just like the expensive 'hidden pocket' that we recently bought for south america, it is pretty impractical for money retrieval in public areas (although we had to let that slip in the endless queue for Christ the Redeemer in Rio, but that's another story).
I'm a fan of spreading the money/cards out a bit.
In hotel rooms without safes, the old 'underneath the bottom drawer' is a useful last resort if you absolutely have to leave something when you are out. _________________ Travelling around the World in 5 months flat.

A 'friend' of mine used to use a money belt, it was strapped to him under his clothing, like a 'financial man-corset'!
We were in the US a while back and we bumped into the Miami Dolphin cheerleaders, I looked across to see him chatting to a couple of them, apprently they liked our English accents, but all I could think was if only they knew what was under that shirt!! _________________ Travel Insurance - Insureplc.com |
