This has already been posted in the Board Issues Forum but is being duplicated on the Introductions Forum, the General Chat Forum and the Asia Travel Forum in the hope that it doesn't get overlooked.
Myself and the moderators are getting pretty tired of some of the lame tricks that spammers have been using to an increasing extent lately.
In particular...
Lying about location
I don't know why, but some posters seem to think what they say might be more credible if it appears that they come from the USA or UK or similar. Invariably such posters come from China, India or, most commonly of all, it seems, Vietnam. Regardless of where you come from, don't try to trick others into thinking you are from somewhere else. If you want credibility, just be honest. It's easy for us to tell if you're telling the truth or not and we will ban people who try to deceive the community.
Copying and pasting posts from other boards or sites
We allow sig files here. Unfortunately, a handful of members abuse this and are only interested in amassing as many posts as possible to get their sig seen as many times as possible. Aside from posting short messages such as 'thanks for the information' (those people quickly get banned), another common tactic that's employed to try to do a lot of posts is to just copy and paste them from other boards. This enables members to post seemingly good posts, with the minimum of effort, but it's just not the way to behave. We want your questions and discussion, not someone else's. Again, anyone caught doing this will be banned without further warning.
I am going to advise fellow moderators to have a zero tolerance approach to this and other spammy techniques that a small minority are engaging in as it's spoiling the experience for those who want to use the board in the manner that it's intended.
Thanks
Aaron
PS - Before someone says "but, Aaron, you don't disclose your true location"... I make the rules, I don't have to stick to them. _________________ Aardvark Map - custom maps for your site
