Oh my god it's crazy to go to space and stay there in a hotel...? I can't imagine this happening still in many, many years, so I'm still staying on earth for now But I think we are gonna need to explore space because earth is suffering too much... |

Actually, I saw this just the other day.
Personally, I think that if there were any real possibility for space tourism, they would've started it long ago. Let's look at the facts:
50 years after we first sent men into space, we've got one true space colony (the ISS), but even this is restricted territory.
50 years after we first sent men into space, you still need either lots of military training or lots of money to get there.
50 years after we first sent men into space, there have been no SERIOUS attempts at providing CHEAP tourism in SPACE; the orbital flights are fun and comparatively cheaper, but technically speaking, they are still well within earth's atmosphere. There's been talk of space hotels for a little over a decade now, but I've yet to even see construction on one.
This is a beautiful world we've got. Space travel is cool and all, but we shouldn't forget about what we've got already! |

“Personally, I think that if there were any real possibility for space tourism, they would've started it long ago”.
Well, we actually did start 20 years ago. However, the first 13 or so years was trying to convince the right people that it was financially possible and eventually profitable. Do you have a spare $30 to $50 million in the bank? Probable not and those who do want to make sure they get a very handsome ROI.
So I’m sure you can understand that little things like creating a civilization that mimics the Jetson’s don’t happen over night.
“50 years after we first sent men into space, there have been no SERIOUS attempts at providing CHEAP tourism in SPACE”
Let me see, Um 3 people very recently died attempting to do just that, does that count?
“50 years after we first sent men into space, you still need either lots of military training or lots of money to get there”.
Not any longer. NASA is looking for anyone who qualifies, especially the jack of all trades types.
Going back to the Moon and eventually on to Mars will require a new kind of astronaut. So a strong military background is not what will determine if you are selected.
“50 years after we first sent men into space, we've got one true space colony (the ISS), but even this is restricted territory”.
Restricted yes, but only to those who can afford to go. Like any new service or technology the price is always higher in the beginning. The first real computer cost half a million dollars and took up an entire room. Today we have computers that are a million times better and cost thousands of times less. It took decades before computers became affordable enough to be considered an available luxury fit for the average home.
“Orbital flights are fun and comparatively cheaper, but technically speaking, they are still well within earth's atmosphere. There's been talk of space hotels for a little over a decade now, but I've yet to even see construction on one”.
I’m sorry, when you were dreaming did you find an easier way to blast a LEO ship out of Earth’s gravity that is cheaper? When you do, please by all means, let everyone know as I’m sure the entire scientific community would love to here from you what they are doing wrong.
You have yet to see construction of a space hotel because you choose not to look.
“This is a beautiful world we've got. Space travel is cool and all, but we shouldn't forget about what we've got already”.
You are absolutely correct this is a beautiful world. But what we’ve got already or more directly what we know, are only those things about this world that we as individuals choose to educate ourselves about.
There are so many things that people choose to ignore that can change this world and our place in it over night.
Space tourism is more than an industry about thrill seeking rich people who have nothing better to do with their time or their money. This industry will be able to do real world testing of new technologies that will lead us to understand our Earth much better than we do now and how to better protect it and ourselves.
Before commenting on a subject like commercial space and suggesting that those who are working it every day, taking what they do passionately, seriously, and making the kinds of sacrifices that you yourself probably wouldn’t choose to make because you would rather stand by and watch people make history instead of being a part of it why? Because the only thing you care about doing anything for is you. |

I have enough problems getting to the other side of the world, I don't think I'll be in space anytime soon!! _________________ Backpacker Resource

Surely a Space Hotel is even worse then a Cruise Ship, you are stuck on a moving object which has only a certain few "attractions" on it? I have never wanted to go on either a Space Shuttle, or a Cruise Liner! _________________ Car Rental |

| Three things before I go a step further in making my reservation. One, what type of credit card can I use in outer space? Two, Can I bring along my pet frog? And three, I'm very much sure that there's still enough sands in Vegas before anybody would plan to put up a Space Hotel anywhere in our galaxy. Agree? |

No credit cards in space. Space travel is a strictly a pay up front deal
Yes you can bring your pet frog. But, you should know, those space helmets are really big on a little frog's head.
Agree, once you've been to Planet Hollywood and seen the stars. It's kinda hard to get excited about a passing meteor.
