Hi all

Just woondering if anyone can recommend a good mp3 player that is easy to travel with.

These are my main concerns / requirements.

Fairly rugged
Very good battery life
1Gb or more space

I have found a few mp3 players which have about 40-50 hours battery life using AA batteries (easier for me to carry than trying to gain access to a powet socket) but I was wondering if anyone had actual experience with any?

I have a Sandisk Dap 1 GB (sdmx1) and that things is amazing. It works great and has a pretty good battery life for it's price. I normally get around 20 hours out of 1 AAA battery.

I saw those players that do 50 hours or more but i also noticed that prices most times are a lot more (you can buy a lot of battery's for that difference)

I guess it is interesting to see one of those old posts back Smile

My answer to this question today would be an iPhone or iPod touch.

Great tools for travel not just mp's but movies and other great applications that could help you on your trips like a dictionary or gps or a way to send you photo's directly to flickr.

I love my iPhone and would not leave home without it. (and i don't even have a data plan)

Long time no see, georgep! How're things up north?

Old thread yes, someone was dredging up 1, 2 and even 3 year old posts last night. Have just finished moderating (read: deleting) most of the responses.

It is bin a long time but slowly i find some more time to stop by here more often Smile

Up north it is cold and then warm and then cold and then warm but yeah that is Calgary. Besides that things are pretty good.

And I guess somethings like moderating never changes Sad

the iTouch is good in this department (as the iPhone also is if you turn off the phone capabilities to increase battery life). if these are too bulky for you then you should try another brand cos the other ipods are not too strong.

just avoid heavy large ones with exposed LCD screens...e.g. my friend had a huge Archos with the hard drive right behind pretty large screen (about 3 inches). this allowed u to watch movies in really high resolution on long trip but also means that the LCD cracks and leaks VERY VERY easily. even from moving to vigorously in your pocket.

If you only want o shuffle music in very small amounts those small pendrive ones are best. its pretty impossible to break/ruin them without being stupid[/img]

For something small I would recommend the iPod shuffle. Very portable, 4gb and you can pick them up pretty cheaply as well.

I recently bought the SanDisk Sansa and it has 2GB. Seems to have pretty long battery life. It actually was sold as part of a bundle with an alarm clock, the top of which has a built-in docking station for the mp3 player. It was a sweet little deal, and I really like both pieces.

travelling you dont have many options to add tunes, so you want a lot on your device so you have some choice..

200 songs gets old really fast.

i liked my ipod video 60gb. thrashed it, gave it altitude sickness twice, wiped accidentally once..

use sharepod for updating it with others music (lets you copy off ipods)

and you want a choice of what to listen to.. so i wouldnt go for a shuffle etc.

Personally I have my 'iPhone 3G S' with me and that has 32gb on it, which is more than enough for anyone!!

Although if you're looking for a cheap one, then I would prob go for a nano and the new one does video!!
