|
Hoping to go to Borneo in September.
Is it a good time of year to go(weather wise)?
Any recommendations on areas to visit. I really want to see the Orangutans, but not sure what area they are in, any suggestions?
Any help gratefully received! _________________ Holiday Villas for rent |

Sabah has orangutans which can be seen at a reserve.
Go to Sandakan city and arrange transport to Sepilok orangutan reserve. _________________ Japan photos at

Great choice of holiday destination.....my favourite place in the world!
As previous said Orang Utans can be seen at Sepilok Reserve in Sabah. There are specific viewing times, morning and afternoon.
I would suggest you stay at one of the small guesthouses on the edge of the reserve (sepilok nature resort is an excellent choice). By staying here you can avoid the big crowds that come in on the day trips from Kota Kinabalu for the morning feeding and take in the afternoon feeding time when there are only usually a handful of tourists there (there can be over 100 in the morning). Also in the evening you can go on a night walk safari in to the park with a local guide - organised through the above guesthouse - where you will see all sorts of wierd and fabulous jungle critters!
Other options include, Tabin Wildlife Reserve, the Kinabatangan River and Danum Valley. At each of these 3 you might see them in the wild (they are being rehab'ed at Sepilok). You will also most likely see gibbons, macaques and proboscis monkeys as well as crocs, and possibly pygmy elephants, leopard cats and even Sumatran rhinos.
Another must do is Turtle Island also in Sabah.
Check out my website (from my signature) if you want any further info. _________________ Nick P
