A new round of cross-party talks is to be held as ministers "seek consensus" for extending the 28 day limit for holding terror suspects without charge.

The Home Office said it had "consulted widely on options", but no decision on any changes had been taken.

Ministers are believed to be drawing up a range of safeguards to allow suspects to be detained for up to 58 days.

But David Davis, for the Conservatives, said there was not a "an ounce of evidence" for extending the limit.

Do you think the police should be allowed to detain terror suspects for a longer period?

No...
What good is that going to do?Alienate the muslim community even more and make more people in britain become terrorists....It isn't a solution.
If they have no evidence after 28 days how is that going to change an extra 30 days? It's just not right. Poeple have fought in the past to get the laws that we are now destroying! And I don't think it will save anyones lifes either.....
But I'm open to opinions and I am aware that I'm not a expert on this at all. Anyone knows how the police feels about the issue and if would help them?

It depresses me that the Government were allowed to bring in 28 days with hardly a word of criticism. It's just b0ll0cks to suggest that 28 days will make any difference whatsoever. If you can't find evidence in the first place, then you can't charge the person.. end of story. It's what has made the British legal system so fair for such a long time.

Are we really in any more danger now than at the time the IRA were at their worst? It works for the Government to encourage our paranoia simply so they can bring in these non-democratic regulations.

As you can see, this is something that gets me rather worked up.

Nope. It is against basic human rights. The potential legislation of 58 days holding period does not change the fact, the action itself would be immoral even if lawful.
