Just found this article. The article covers only basics, but it's still informative.

Quote:

Heat stroke: What you must know

New Delhi: With summers here the heat is on, and there is no respite. Exposure to the summer sun, humidity and over exertion can lead to a heat stroke, which can cause the body’s heat-regulating mechanism to break down.

Apart from that, a heat stroke can cause high fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea even seizures.

Says senior physician, Ganga Ram Hospital, Dr Sunil Jain, “Children, older people and people who have chronic diseases are more prone to heat stroke because they are not able to cope with extremes of any type. And people who are on anti-depressants, diuretics, anti Parkinson are also more prone to getting heat stroke.”

Now if you do see someone suffering from heat stroke, here is what you can do:

Remove them to a cooler spot.

Loosen their clothes.

Try and give them water.

Give them a cold water sponge if possible.

Rub their palms and feet for better circulation of blood in the body.

And of course, call the doctor.

Another thing that helps a lot is immersing the body in water. If you have children, allow them play in a swimming pool, as that would be a great therapy.

And for those who believe that prevention is better than cure, drink a lot of water, binge on lemonade, buttermilk, juice even coconut water, and avoid coffee and alcohol and heavy exercises.

I imagine it's a mild form of burning so similar tips apply to it as they do for burns. Good tips Ooen, especially for us Brits who traditionally don't sunbathe very well Very Happy

I hate to admit, but beer is no good; it really dehydrates you quickly and it can make you sick. Another thing is that you might not like sweating a lot, but it's better to drink a bunch of water and sweat a lot than not to drink a lot of water and dehydrate. If you drink a bunch of water, you can better cope with extreme heat; this really makes a huge difference.

I get heat stroke very easily, and the one thing (other than drinking a lot of water) that seems to help me is covering up - light, loose clothing on my body, and a hat to keep the sun out of my face.

It's so hard to 'slow down' when you're travelling, but heat stroke is not a pleasant experience, and if you're in a place with extremes of weather that you aren't used to, then trust me, it's worth taking a little time out in the shade now, rather than losing several days feeling really, really ill.

I'm Greek and I run in a hotel, we get many heat stroke cases, everytime we have heat waves in Greece there is an announcement on the TV, they always suggest lot's of water, hats on etc, but you also need to know the sea helps more than the pool, the air is cooler and the water is always cooler than the swimming pool water. Of course all these are good for you to avoid the heat stroke...

Heat waves are normal issues in north India, during the summer seasons. Eating a lot of Onions and drinking pure water, helps in resisting these extreme heat waves.
